May Update

So, here is an update on Jimmy at OTS. Right now they are learning all about combative skills. Last week, a guy accidentally head butted him and sliced open Jimmy's eyelid. Not a pretty sight. So, off to the base hospital he went to get glued up. Everything is healing well, but he does have a black eye and for now, no more combative training.

Last Saturday was military appreciation night at the Montgomery Biscuits game and some of the OTS guys got to go...including Jimmy! It was so fun to get to walk around together and sit and enjoy the game together. So grateful for all the time we have been able to see each other!

Just warning you...from here on out, it's all baby stuff. Although my due date is July 1, 2013, my doctor is planning on inducing labor sometime in week 39 which means I'm a mere six weeks away from having a son! I'm excited and completely freaked out all at the same time. Last night it occurred to me that between the Gillie family reunion and Jimmy graduating from Officer's Training School, that really I have more like three weeks to get prepared. Thank goodness we will be staying with family when little guy comes!

Last night we headed off to Target to do some baby shower registering and had lots of fun doing that...or rather I should say Gail (my mother in law) and I had lots of fun doing that. So now I can cross that of the "to-do before baby comes" list! Woo Hoo!

Today, I tackled the oh so intimidating hospital bag packing. For those of you who frequent pinterest, you might notice that there are tons of pins about what to pack in your hospital bag. I'll admit that I scoured them. What can I say, I love doing research. However, I've come to the conclusion that some people are crazy packers....and I'm just not one of them. So I made my own list and got to work. For those of you who have gone through childbirth, please feel free to give advice about what you consider pointless to bring and what you consider essential to bring.

And snacks...because I love them.

Well, that's all I've got. Hope y'all have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

Kyrstie

  1. Jimmy's looking sharp in his uniform. I can't believe there is a sports team called the Montgomery Biscuits. ;-) I miss you both terribly!

  3. I packed on the light side too. You probably have a pretty good list of items, but just make sure you don't take your pre-pregnancy jeans. They won't fit (for prob at least 3 months!). A stretchy pair of yoga pants are the best. I mostly wore the hospital gowns, but took a couple of t-shirts. I wear contacts, but didn't want to mess with them there, so I didn't take them. Most important items: camera & cell phone. Don't bother to take a bunch of baby clothes either. They're fine in the hospital t-shirt (and hard to change too...) Just pick a cute outfit (and one extra for spit-up or blow-outs) for taking them home. You don't need your own diapers and wipes either. Take one soft, pretty blanket for taking pictures of baby in. I didn't bother to take books or games or entertainment, but I also just had C-sections. I think you'll be too tired for any boredom buster items. I didn't take any of my own food.

Be prepared for modesty to go out the window. You'll have nurses coming in and out, and lactation specialists helping you hands-on! Weird to get used to...

    Good luck!

  4. Thanks so much! It sounds like we're on the right track with our bag based on what you've said. I am too lazy to even think about bringing jeans. Yoga pants for me! I've heard after labor that modest means nothing...so nice to hear it from someone I actually know!
