September Update

Well September flew by! Here's what's up with us...

Jimmy started flight school at the Naval Air Station and is doing very well. He works hard studying and it is paying off. He is scoring well on the academic test as well as the physical exams. We've been meeting him for lunch when it's nice out which has been fun for all of us. So far the government shut down hasn't hurt us too much. A lot of the stores and such on base have closed which is sad and the museum/blue angels have also been closed which we're bummed about. We hope that things are resolved quickly so that things can get up and running again!

We've been a bunch of sickies this month. I've had strep and mastitis and then got an infection from being in so many antibiotics an then Jimmy got an infection a well. Very happy to report that we are feeling much better!

Sam has had a couple firsts this month too! Squealing, laughing, grabbing his toys and rolling (front to back) to name a few. It's so exciting to watch him as he learns and grows! He's in for a shocker...I've been reading the "no cry sleep solution" book in hope that Sam will begin to sleep more than two hours at a time at night and more than 45 minutes during the day. Wish us luck!

Big time update

A lot has happened for us Gillies since my last post. 

Kyrstie and Samuel went to Oklahoma while Jimmy did a four week training course in Colorado.  

We also got to send Alex off on a two year mission for our church. He will serve English speaking in the Oakland/San Francisco mission. We are so excited for him!

And we moved to Pensacola! We love it so far...the pool is easily Kyrstie's favorite thing. The beach is pretty fantastic as well. We're also looking forward to trying out lots of new restaurants. 

And of course I have to include the creepy cat billboard on the way into town. 

Well that's about it. We have an appointment with a pediatric cardiologist in a few days. Prayers are more than welcome! 

Now I'm going to bombard you with tons of Sam pictures. 

Pensacola Trip

In about six weeks we will be moving down to Pensacola, FL for Jimmy to go to flight school at the Naval Air Station there. So we decided to go down for a couple of days to get a feel for the town and see some apartments. We had a great time and are so excited to move there! After looking at tons of apartments, we decided to go for the very last one we looked at. A nice two bedroom/two bath with big walk-in closets,a washer and dryer, and a fully screened in patio. The complex has a great looking pool that I have every intention of visiting daily. It's also located a few minutes from base and church both of which were huge pluses for us!

While we were visiting Pensacola we stopped to eat at the famous McGuire's Irish Pub and it was delicious! We had homemade root beer, senate bean soup, HUGE hamburgers, and yummy potato skins. 

We also stopped at a random chimney off of scenic Highway. It was pretty boring but we took a picture anyway. 

On our way home we went to Lambert's Cafe. It's easily our favorite restaurant and we are really looking forward to living so close to it. 

Yes...I'm obsessed enough that I took a picture of my food before diving in. 

In other news, Jimmy leaves for a four week training course in Pueblo, CO this week. Sam and I will miss him, but I think (and hope) that it will go quickly.

And Samuel Makes Three

Well folks....he's here! On June 24th Jimmy and I got up at 4:15am and headed over to the hospital.  Once there they started the IV and the anesthesiologist started asking all his questions in order to make sure I could have a spinal block. They also spent about 30 minutes monitoring baby's heartbeat. That was pretty entertaining. He was very active the entire time so he'd kick around and get his heart up into the 150s and then take a quick rest and it'd get back down to the 120s. At 6:30 they wheeled me back to the operating room to get set up. I immediately started shivering...it's freezing in there and those hospital gowns do nothing to keep you warm. Thank goodness for heated blankets! The spinal block wet well. It was weird to suddenly start feeling warm in my lower half because of the numbing. Then they laid me out and set up the drape. My doctor came in and turned on some music which was kind of relaxing. An then they let Jimmy in. He came and stood by me and I told him what had happened once I came in the back. Mostly I was trying to keep myself busy from thinking about the fact that they were slicing me open. After about four minutes they told me that I should feel some tugging and then he would be born. Jimmy watched over the drape and got to see as they pulled him out. Samuel  was born at 6:46am, weighed 8 lbs 4 oz, and is 19 inches long. I shudder to think how big he would have been if I had been allowed to go into labor on my own. After that they cleaned me up and had Jimmy go to the nursery with Sam. Within half an hour the three of us were in recovery together. It really was amazing and we love him already.

Jimmy Graduates from Officer's Training School

Well, folks, he's done! Yay! I'm so excited and proud that after 9.5 long weeks, Jimmy has finished this part of his training and is now a Second Lieutenant. It made for an eventful two days. On Monday we went to an open house where he showed us around the campus and his living areas.

And, yes, Jimmy is staring directly into the camera and making a weird face. He enjoys ruining my snapshots.

Later that evening he and I attended a formal dining out with the rest of the OTS class. It was lots of fun. I have to be honest, I think my favorite part was judging the dresses that the other girls were wearing. Petty? Perhaps, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bright and early Tuesday morning we headed back to the base for Jimmy's commissioning. Other than the fact the fact that the A/C was broken, it was great! Jimmy's Dad, Doran, was who commissioned him so that was really special. Then his mom and I got to pin him. And have lots of pictures taken :)

The last event of the graduation was the parade. All was going well until the lightening decided to grace us with it's presence. To steal the words of the lady officer that was sitting in front of me, "nothing stops the U.S. Air Force....except lightening within 5 miles." So, it got delayed for 30 minutes. And then the sun came out and it got hotter than hades. Thankfully, everything from that point on went smoothly and it only lasted about 30 minutes. They did their march to the Air Force song, took the oath all together, and threw their caps in the air!

That's all I have about graduation. Thanks to all the family and friends that have been so encouraging!

Also, a little side note, we also had our last doctor appointment later in the afternoon of graduation. Everything is going as expected and we are set to have our little guy on Monday! Can't believe that it's only two days away! So...keep an eye out for the next blog post....it's sure to be a good one :)
